1 John 4:18 states that, “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.”

Tomorrow, 27 April is a special day for South Africa. It is the day that the first free and democratic elections were held in the country in 1994, and when South Africa was liberated from a long period of colonialism and white minority domination i.e. apartheid.

We at bAw celebrate with our fellow brothers and sisters as they remember the moment when fear began to be cast out of their hearts and lives. We would like to take it a step further and celebrate the freedom we received as humanity over 2 000 years ago when God Himself died for us, and poured out His love over us to set us free from the slavery and oppression of sin and Satan.

“For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm, therefore, and do not submit again to the yoke of slavery.” – Galations 5:1

Today’s post is rather special. In the spirit of celebrating freedom, we were fortunate to engage in conversation about #blacklove and #africanlove with our wise Aunt and Uncle. We recorded this hilarious and spiritually uplifting conversation which you can watch here.

In this episode, Uncle Victor and Aunt Gail Masondo share deep insights into the freedom of love from someone who has the same skin colour but is from different parts of the world. They share powerful encouragements for those of us trying to figure out this love thing God’s way. And what’s so special, is that they provide these lessons from a godly perspective within an African context. They’ve been married for 24 years so you know they have a well of wisdom to drink from!
